Earlier this week, Ride A Cycle Foundation (RAC-F), along with Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Directorate of Urban Land Transport(DULT) and Gubbi Labs received special recognition at the 2nd edition of the Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award, for its efforts to promote cycling in Bangalore.
Notable among these efforts are the Bicycle Friendly Streets in Jayanagar that was launched on September 22nd and Namma Cycle – the bicycle sharing program currently on at the Indian Institute of Science campus.
BBMP implemented the Bicycle Friendly Streets in Jayanagar by creating 40km of cycling lanes, adding appropriate bicycle signage and building traffic calming infrastructure. The project report was created by Gubbli Labs under the instance of DULT.
Gubbi Labs provided technical expertise for both projects.
Mr. Ravi Venkatesan, Member of the Board at AB Volvo presented the award. Sri Basavaraj Kabade, Executive Engineer, BBMP and Murali HR, Project Director, RAC-F received the award on behalf of BBMP and RAC-F.
About the award
Every year The Embassy of Sweden celebrates the Nobel Prize via the Sweden-India Nobel Memorial Week during which Volvo Buses hosts the Volvo Nobel Memorial Seminar. This year, the focus of the seminar was to create greater awareness about the issues & concerns of all stakeholders towards creating a sustainable transport eco-system. The Volvo Sustainable Mobility Award was instituted by Volvo Buses in 2011 to support outstanding efforts in the area of sustainable transport in Indian cities.
